Job Title: Contemporary Worship Leader

 

Purpose: First United Methodist Church is seeking a gifted Contemporary Worship Leader to lead our 9:00 AM Sunday morning service. The ideal candidate is a skilled musician and vocalist with sincere Christian faith, a heart for congregational worship, and a demonstrated ability to lead a band in creating an engaging, Christ-centered worship experience. This is a part-time position requiring an estimated 12-15 hours per week.
 

Accountability: Report directly to the senior pastor and staff parish relations committee. A liaison from SPRC will be assigned.
 

Compensation: $17,000-$19,000
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Collaborate with the pastor and praise band members to select and plan songs for worship services based on sermon themes and topics

· Create clear, accurate lead sheets for vocalists and instrumentalists, ensuring appropriate key signatures and arrangements for each song

· Work with praise band members to coordinate weekly rehearsal schedules and arrange additional practice times as needed

· Lead and conduct weekly praise band rehearsals on Thursday at 6:30 P.M. and Sunday at 7:30 A.M. in preparation for the weekly worship services Sundays at 9:00 A.M.

· Provide musical leadership in arranging songs, utilizing advanced music theory knowledge and skills to enhance worship quality

· Prepare and distribute all necessary copies of lead sheets and sheet music to praise band members for rehearsals and services

· Organize, maintain, and file sheet music and lead sheets after each week’s use

· Foster a collaborative, respectful, and spiritually focused rehearsal environment

· Ensure all music aligns with the church’s theology and worship style

Specific Talents and Skills Needed:

· Strong vocal and instrumental proficiency (e.g., piano, guitar, or other lead instrument)

· Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary worship music styles and trends

· Advanced understanding of music theory and song arrangement
 

Experience:

· Experience leading musical groups or worship teams

· Strong organizational and communication skills

· Ability to work collaboratively with church staff and volunteers
 

Preferred:

Keyboardist familiar with Propresenter
